Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State softball falls to Aztecs in eight innings

SAN DIEGO — The Broncos (30-21, 14-9 Mountain West) lost to San Diego State 1-0 Friday, eliminating them from contention for the Mountain West's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Boise State can still earn a share of the conference championship with a win Saturday. Pitcher Rebecca Patton went the distance for the Broncos, allowing four hits and two walks.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO TRACK AND FIELD: Sora Klopfenstein was a double winner at the Cascade Conference Championships in Nampa. Klopfenstein won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:10.10) and the 10,000 meters (37:34.52). Jasmine Hurd set a meet record in the 100-meter hurdles (14.13), and Hillary Holt also set a meet record in the 1,500 meters (4:29.16). The C of I won the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.29. For the men, Austin Basterrechea won the 110-meter hurdles (15.45). The C of I women and the Southern Oregon men lead after the first day.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE TRACK AND FIELD: Alison Silva won the GNAC pole vault title, clearing 11 feet, 0.25 inches at Momouth, Ore. Vessie Umu claimed the GNAC shot put crown with a throw of 44-3.5. The Crusaders are in the lead after the first day of the conference championships at Western Oregon.
