Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence will have to wait till Friday

Former Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence wasn’t selected in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. He likely will be selected in the second round, which begins at 5 p.m. Friday.

Lawrence was considered a long shot to go in the first round.

Lawrence performed private workouts for the Buccaneers (sixth pick in the second round), Cowboys (15th), Panthers (28th) and Patriots (30th).

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock ranks Lawrence as the No. 41 prospect in the draft. He has him as the No. 15 player still available and ranked him ahead of six first-round picks. Other NFL Network analysts have Lawrence ranked No. 27, No. 37 and No. 40.

ESPN projected Lawrence as the 54th overall pick, to the Philadelphia Eagles, in its three-round mock draft.

No Mountain West players were selected in the first round. Here are the former Boise State opponents who were drafted:

14. CB Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech (2010)
20. WR Brandin Cooks, Oregon State (2013) )
24. CB Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State (2012) )
25. CB Jason Verrett, TCU (2011) )
