Boise police arrested Marcus Robert Harris, 19, following an early morning pursuit Tuesday in southwest Boise.
Officers spotted a car going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone on West Overland Road at 3:29 a.m. The driver failed to maintain his lane of travel, police said.
The car, a black Mazda, sped up to an estimated 75 mph and drove into the oncoming lanes of traffic. The car turned north onto Brooklawn Drive, hopped a sidewalk and kept going.
Because of the danger, officers quit their pursuit and notified other officers in the area to watch out for the car. A few minutes later, the same two officers spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Brentwood and Beechwood roads.
Two men got out of the car. One, later identified as Harris, began running. Officers chased after him and took him into custody.
Harris was given a breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of .20 percent, more than twice Idaho's intoxication level for drivers of .08 percent.
Harris was taken to the Ada County Jail, where he was charged with eluding police, excessive driving under the influence and resisting and obstructing.
The 20-year-old passenger, who was not publicly identified, was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and released.
