The city of Boise is one vote away from owning its entire City Hall complex.
The City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a resolution to buy what's known as "Building 2" located on the complex's southeast corner from Ada County. The price: $1.
In 2001, the city entered an agreement to lease the building, which once housed the county's administrative offices, from the county for $500,000 a year. The last payment was in 2013. Over the course of the agreement, which now allows the city to buy the building, the city paid Ada County $6.5 million, city spokesman Adam Park said.
Building 2 houses the city's legal department, arts and history department, billing, IT staff and engineering department.
The savings the city will reap from no longer paying the annual lease have already been spoken for.
"The $500,000 savings to the city was integrated into the (fiscal year) 2014 budget building process that the city conducted last year," Park said in an email. "These savings were combined with the many new costs and savings the city experiences each year, so it isnt possible to say what these particular funds were applied to."
