EAGLE — Citing rude behavior and "a narrow view of her constituency," a group of Eagle citizens has launched an effort to recall City Councilwoman Mary McFarland.
Jane Kramer submitted a prospective petition with 20 signatures on April 25 to Ada County elections office to start the recall process. Now the group has until July 12 to collect 2,459 signatures to trigger a special election this fall.
McFarland said she knows some citizens are upset about recent decisions made by the city council including using eminent domain to acquire easements for the greenbelt, purchasing park land from Ada County, building a snow park and recommending the highway district put a roundabout at the intersection on State Street and Eagle Road.
"All of those issues have certainly contributed to the situation that we find on hand here," Kramer said. "Mary is ultimately to be held accountable in our minds because she has been elected to be president of the council."
McFarland said she is proud of the work she done for Eagle and she stands behind her decisions.
I came into this office knowing that there is no way to bring change and please everyone, said McFarland. Whether, I'm working to bring live music, connect the greenbelt, provide recreation with the snow terrain park or improve traffic and the aesthetics of downtown, someone is not going to be happy. I am committed to continue working hard to improve Eagle. The people behind this petition are just as passionate about Eagle and I respect that," said McFarland.
