Statesman grabs most awards in Idaho Press Club competition

The paper's staffers are honored for their work in print, magazines and online.

The Pinnacle Awards, given for the highest number of winning entries, went to the Idaho Statesman, KTVB (Channel 7) and the Teton Valley News for their 2013 journalism efforts.

All of the winners were announced Saturday night at a dinner in Boise.

The Statesman's two specialty magazines, Treasure and Living Healthy, got first- and third-place awards in the general excellence category, and production editor Holly Anderson, who helms the magazines, won first place for best magazine column.

Reporters Sven Berg and Katy Moeller finished second and third in the reporter of the year category, which was won by Idaho Education News' Kevin Richert, a former Statesman employee.

In addition to several first-place finishes in writing categories, Statesman staffers also captured first place for multimedia reporting and best use of interactivity for website projects.

Photojournalist Kyle Green had three first-place finishes, for spot news, feature picture and general news photo. Katherine Jones took first in photo essay.

Reporters Berg, Moeller, Anna Webb, Audrey Dutton Zach Kyle, Kristin Rodine, Bill Roberts, John Sowell and Dana Oland; sports writers Brian Murphy, Chadd Cripe and Dave Southorn; outdoors writers Pete Zimowsky and Roger Phillips; and photographers Green, Jones and Darin Oswald all had multiple top-3 finishes.
