Letter: Killing animals

April 29, 2014

Some years ago, in eastern Idaho, Boy Scout troops spent the weekend clubbing jack rabbits to death. Kill it! Today Idaho is poisoning ravens. Kill it! Idaho has extended the wolf hunt. Low-flying aircraft run wolves until they drop and shoot them. Kill it! A mountain animal follows the river into town. Kill it! A dog barks at a policeman. Kill it! Dogs bark at men in uniform, ask a postman. Trapping is legal in Idaho, 2011-2012: nontarget animals trapped: 246, including lynx, moose, deer, elk, bear, bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions and domestic pets. Must be a better way!
