Idaho Steelheads snag victory, 3-2 series lead in ECHL first round

Idaho returns to Boise for Game 6 on Monday; needs one win in two games to clinch.

— Gaelan Patterson scored off a rebound early in the third period, and Josh Robinson turned aside 16-of-17 shots in the period as Idaho beat the Colorado Eagles 2-1 in Game 5 of their best-of-seven ECHL Western Conference playoff series Friday night.

Idaho has won two straight games on the road, and needs to win either Monday or Tuesday at CenturyLink Arena to advance to the West semifinals.

Brett Robinson scored in the first period for the Steelheads, who took a 1-0 lead into the third.

Early in the third, Idaho picked up the winning goal when David deKastrozza won an offensive-zone faceoff and stepped around the opposing center to take a quick shot. Patterson collected the loose puck at 5:13 to score his second goal of the postseason.

Robinson stopped 27-of-28 shots to up his playoff save percentage to .948 (127-of-134) in four games.
