Video of College of Idaho walk-off grand slam, celebration goes viral

April 21, 2014

Mitch Skaggs hits a walkoff grand slam homer in the 11th inning, lifting College of Idaho past Menlo College, 10-6.

It had been a rough day at the plate for Mitch Skaggs. The College of Idaho baseball player was 0-6 with three strikeouts when he entered the batter box in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday at Wolfe Field in Caldwell.

Skaggs swung at the first pitch he saw from Menlo College pitcher Alex Davila, driving the ball over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam and a 10-6 Yotes victory.

Neither Skaggs nor Davila appeared to have any doubt about the ball's ultimate destination. Their reactions, captured in the video on this page, are one reason why the 30-second clip posted to YouTube by the College of Idaho's athletic department has already had more than 139,000 views.

The Yotes split doubleheaders with Menlo on Saturday and Sunday. They finished in a three-way tie for third in the NAIA West and will be the No. 4 seed in the five-team tournament that begins May 1. Their first opponent? Menlo College.
