Coroner: Woman found in Northwest Boise canal probably accidentally drowned

April 18, 2014

The Ada County Coroner's Office believes a woman found in a Northwest Boise canal Thursday morning accidentally drowned. But it could take several weeks to receive toxicology reports and confirm that suspicion, according to a Friday news release from forensic supervisor Robert Karinen.

The woman's identity is still being confirmed, Karinen wrote. An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma.

It's still not clear how long the woman's body may have been in the canal. A canal company employee called police and emergency medical workers at around 9 a.m. Thursday after finding what he thought might be a body in the canal behind a church in the 4700 block of West State Street. The body was under several feet of water.

Police said later Thursday that there was no immediate indication of criminal activity and no indication of any public safety threat.
