Tuesday's weather: Mild with a 100 percent chance of wind

April 15, 2014

Looking to spend some time outside Tuesday? A word to the wise: put away the golf clubs and fly a kite instead.

Strong, gusty winds will dominate the Treasure Valley on Tuesday before diminishing overnight. Expect sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph Tuesday afternoon, with gusts up to 35 mph.

"We're going to have quite a bit of wind today coming in behind a cold front that passed through last night," National Weather Service meteorologist Les Colin said.

While the winds will be strong in and around Boise, they'll be even stronger in Mountain Home and farther east and south into the Magic Valley, where a wind advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Expect sustained winds of 30 to 35 mph in those areas, with gusts up to 45 mph. The strongest winds are expected between 3 and 7 p.m.

Colin said another weather disturbance will come to the area Thursday night and Friday morning in the form of rain. But some stability should return to the forecast by the weekend. Sunday is expected to be sunny with highs "well into the 70s," Colin said.

Tuesday's high in Boise should reach 60 degrees. The overnight low will drop to 39 degrees. Wednesday also will see a high of 60 degrees, and Thursday should be slightly warmer, with a high of 65 degrees.
