Idaho colleges roundup: C of I football hosts spring scrimmage today

CALDWELL — The College of Idaho wraps up spring camp with a 9 a.m. practice and a 9:30 a.m. scrimmage at Symms Field on the Caldwell campus. The program's new helmet design will be unveiled at 10:45 a.m. Football returns to the NAIA program this fall for the first time since 1977. The Coyotes will compete in the Frontier Conference.

C OF I SOFTBALL: Ashley Van Horne (Caldwell High) went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and Nickayla Skinner (Mountain Home High) pitched a pair of complete games to help the 24th-ranked Coyotes (21-11, 13-7 Cascade) sweep Southern Oregon 8-0 and 8-2.

BOISE STATE MEN'S TENNIS: The 22nd-ranked Broncos opened a weekend homestand by defeating UC Irvine 5-2 at the Appleton Tennis Center. Boise State, which has a nine-match home winning streak, improved to 21-4 with matches against Idaho (9:30 a.m.) and San Diego State (5:30 p.m.) on Saturday.

BSU WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Broncos (12-9, 3-3 Mountain West) lost to Wyoming 5-2 in Laramie.

BSU SOFTBALL: Rebecca Patton pitched a three-hit shutout and Tara Glover launched a home run as Boise State (19-18, 4-3 MW) beat Nevada 1-0 in Reno.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE BASEBALL: The Crusaders (15-18, 11-9 GNAC) split a doubleheader with Central Washington in Nampa, losing 10-7 and winning 7-0.

NNU SOFTBALL: The Crusaders (11-25, 3-10 GNAC) split a doubleheader at Montana State Billings, winning 6-4 and losing 8-0 in five innings.
