Why The Shoe Guy left Boise Towne Square mall

dstaats@idahostatesman.comApril 9, 2014

For 18 years, Warren Mathews was an oddball among Boise Towne Square shopkeepers. Many of his customers knew him only as The Shoe Guy, the name of the shoe-repair shop where he worked.

Mathews, 55, ran an independent service business in a mall full of chain and franchise retailers. So it was the end of an era when he and his wife, Jackie, 52, moved out at the end of December.

They're now in a larger space in a strip mall at 7109 W. Overland Road, near Interstate 84. "We looked a long time before we chose this spot," Jackie Mathews said.

They say they're much happier - and not because of high rents or an inability to generate enough business at the mall. Watch the video to find out why.
