Walter Bayes on Idaho's prison challenges

Where the candidates stand

The prison system is a very complicated subject. There are two major problems we are facing.

The first is how to properly manage the prison population that we currently have.

The first thing we need do is hire some honest people who are interested in the health and rehabilitation of the inmates. These people would have to be real strict. All of the guards and other personnel must be honest, have a clean record and have a desire to help in the process of rehabilitating the inmates.

Many of the inmates are in prison as a result of illegal drug use. Therefore we need to implement a system to keep all illegal drugs out of the prison.

Jeremiah 13:23, "Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil."

The Bible states the only way a man can be saved and his heart changed is to accept Jesus Christ and follow his commandments.

I myself had a very foul mouth and tried not to use profanity around my wife and small children; "but from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks."

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, and ever after it brought tears to my eyes that anyone would take the Lord's name in vain. It changed the wicked and selfish desires of my heart, to a sincere desire to follow Jesus, "who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life."

I am not suggesting we force Christianity on anyone, but simply make sure there are Christian ministers and literature available.

Proverbs 22:6. "Train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old, he will not depart from it." The schools and other government agencies have taken over many of the parents' responsibilities.

Today's schools teach evolution and sex ed, in direct opposition to the word of God. They teach young girls that they should enter the workplace and compete with men, and to forsake the God-given duties of a wife and mother.

Many parents abuse drugs and alcohol to the point that they cannot function as parents. For this and other reasons, we have an overfull foster care system.

When you take God out of school, you have an ungodly school, and you will have to build another prison to hold ungodly graduates.

God ordained parents to raise children. Ever since the government took control of the school and passed laws on the correction of children, our country has been a mess.

When you buy a new car you get a manual on how to care for your new acquisition. The car now belongs to you. If you want to put gas where the oil goes and antifreeze where the gas goes, that is your business, but you won't get far. When God made man and gave him a family, he gave us a Bible, which is a manual. You follow the teachings of Christ, and things will work out all right, or you can let the government raise your kids, and you will need a prison to hold them!

If elected governor I will do everything in my power to stop illegal drugs in Idaho, (enforce the Idaho Constitution; Article 20 – Section 24) and encourage parents to take a more active role in educating their kids.

Idaho Constitution: Article 3 – Section 24. PROMOTION OF TEMPERANCE AND MORALITY.

"The first concern of all good government is the virtue and sobriety of the people, and the purity of the home. The Legislature should further all wise and well directed efforts for the promotion of temperance and morality."
