Started an application on Idaho's insurance exchange? April 15 is your deadline

Idahoans who started the process of signing up for health insurance before March 31 but couldn't finish before the deadline have less than two weeks to complete their applications.

"Idahoans who are still working to finish their applications need to be persistent," said Jody Olson, communications director for Your Health Idaho, the health-insurance exchange for the state. "[The] clock is ticking."

April 15 is the final day for Idahoans to sign up for a plan.

Need help finishing your application? Call (800) 318-2596 or contact an in-person assister, insurance agent or broker.

Didn't start the application process? You're out of luck. To enroll on the exchange — with or without health-insurance premium subsidies — you will have to wait until Nov. 15, when the next enrollment period starts. There are some exceptions, such as if you lose or change jobs, get married or have a baby, move to another state or experience the death of a spouse.

Some insurers will have short-term plans available to consumers. But those plans do not have to comply with the same rules as the plans sold on the exchange, such as covering preventive care and pre-existing conditions, and may have much higher out-of-pocket costs.

"We feel like we were able to reach a lot of Idahoans in the past six months, but this is a complicated issue, and we know it will take a lot more time to help Idahoans understand Your Health Idaho and what it could mean for them and their family," Olson said.
