A judge has given the Pocatello/Chubbuck Auditorium District permission to sell bonds to build a $6.8 million event center, and construction bid packages could be ready by mid-April April.
The district plans a 40,000-square-foot multipurpose building that is intended to focus on the large number of athletic events hosted in the area.
The project followed a feasibility study to determine if a center was needed in the Portneuf Valley and what niches it might serve. The district sought judicial confirmation so it could sell bonds to finance the center, said Raul Cano, executive director. Sixth District Judge Stephen Dunn approved the request last month. The district will sell the bonds with the help of the Chubbuck Development Authority.
The Auditorium District is funded through a 5 percent tax levied on local hotel room rentals. Revenue from the tax will pay off the bonds.
