Political dishonesty is rampant even in state government. Several years ago, the Legislature decided that the homeowners property tax exemption would fluctuate according to housing price index. Never heard of the housing price index? Neither did most lawmakers until it was proposed. Now the size of the homeowners exemption goes up and down according to the calculations of the office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, which you've never heard of either.
Is it possible that the homeowners exemption is helping make my property tax liability unpredictable? And is it driving up property taxes paid by businesses, who in turn, raise prices on me? Yes and yes. As reported by the Idaho Freedom Foundation.
