In the coming days and weeks we will be featuring the answers to questions we posed to Idaho candidates who face competition in the May 20 primary election.

We solicited Guest Opinions from Republican gubernatorial candidates Gov. Butch Otter, Sen. Russ Fulcher, Harley Brown and Walter Bayes before the filing deadline and have extended invitations to Democratic challengers A.J. Balukoff and Terry Kerr.

The set began Sunday, March 23, with Republican opinions about the validity and necessity of the Common Core standards, which Idaho adopted in 2011 but which have lately been criticized. You can read them here: Walter Bayes, Harley Brown, Russ Fulcher and Butch Otter.

Watch following Sundays before the May primary for further installments. Robert Ehlert is the Statesman’s editorial page editor. Contact him at 377-6437, or on Twitter @IDS_HelloIdaho.
