Women-owned businesses on the rise in Idaho

The number of businesses owned by women has risen sharply in both Idaho and in the nation, according to an American Express report.

Women today own an estimated 37,700 Idaho businesses, a 46.3 percent rise from 1997, according to the report.

The increase is more dramatic nationally. The estimated 9 million women-owned businesses represent a nearly 68 percent increase from 1997.

Women-owned businesses now employ an estimated 34,400 in Idaho and 7.8 million nationally. The businesses brought in an estimated $4.5 million in sales in Idaho and $1.4 billion nationally.
