Caldwell man missing after boat overturns on Snake River

A Caldwell man went missing Friday after the jet boat he was riding in overturned.

Ricky M. Flores went missing Friday night after a boating accident on the Snake River near Hells Canyon Dam, according to the Wallowa County Sheriff's Office. Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene at about 7 p.m.

The 42-year-old Caldwell man was riding in a jet boat with Charles W. Gissel, 42, of Ontario, and Eric A. Meyerhoffer, 43, of Payette. The boat capsized in the Wild Sheep rapids, about 8 miles north of Hells Canyon Dam.

Gissel and Meyerhoffer were found on the shore near the rapids.

A search and rescue mission was initiated to find Flores. Agencies involved included Wallowa County Sheriff's Office, Adams County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Oregon Air National Guard, U.S. Forest Service, Baker County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Power, Wallowa County Search & Rescue, Baker County Search & Rescue and others.

Search teams were unable to locate the boat or Flores. The search effort will continue with additional tools, including a sidescan sonar.
