March 19, 2014

Brian M. Dufty

Brian M. Dufty, 36, of Boise was taken into custody after allegedly battering a 60-year-old woman, ramming her vehicle, damaging her residence and ramming a police car while trying to flee the scene.

Garden City police were called to respond to a fight in the 5900 block of Willowdale Lane at about 6 p.m. As officers drove to the scene, they were told the man had battered the woman and was ramming his Volkswagen Jetta into the woman's vehicle.

Officers spotted the Jetta leaving the scene as they arrived. An officer stopped his patrol car in front of the VW to get it to stop. However, the driver kept going and rammed the front of the police car.

Officers sprayed the man with pepper spray and Tased him before taking him into custody.

Neither Dufty nor officers were injured, according to a Garden City police report.

Besides striking the woman, Dufty caused extensive damage to the woman's property and her vehicle. Police said they did not know the relationship between the two.

Dufty was taken to the Ada County Jail, where he was charged with battery, aggravated assault on a police officer, malicious injury to property and resisting and obstructing. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ada County Courthouse.
