A 42-year-old man was shot to death early Friday in the parking lot at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Ontario.

Dale Joseph Wright of Ontario was pronounced dead after being taken inside the hospital following the 3:30 a.m. shooting.

Ontario police have not revealed a motive for the shooting. Wright and Juan Carlos Lopez, 24, who was arrested in the killing, had arrived together at the hospital before Wright was shot, police said. The pair knew each other, police said.

An autopsy by an examiner from the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office is scheduled to take place Saturday.

The case remains under investigation.

Lopez fled the scene and ran over Wright as he left the parking lot, police said. He was later located at a home in Nyssa, 14 miles south of Ontario, near the Idaho border. He was taken into custody without incident a couple of hours after the shooting.

"There was no trouble once officers made contact with him. He gave up peacefully," Malheur Sheriff Brian Wolfe said.

He was taken to the Malheur County Jail in Vale, where he was questioned by police.
