LAS VEGAS — The Idaho womens and mens basketball teams seem to be peaking at the right time.
The defending champion women begin WAC Tournament play at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Orleans Arena, with the men getting started at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The two teams closed out their regular seasons with a combined 9-1 record.
The top-seeded Idaho women (22-8) open against Chicago State, which the Vandals have defeated twice this season by 50 points both times. The Vandals went 15-1 in WAC play, winning their last five, and on Monday received WAC honors for player (Stacey Barr) and coach of the year (Jon Newlee).
Idahos men (14-17), seeded fifth, take on fourth-seeded Kansas City, which the Vandals defeated 87-80 on the road Saturday. During a 4-1 finish to the regular season, Idaho scored 82.6 points per game, about 13 more than its average.
What you hope at this point is your guys are locked in and they have been extremely locked in the last three or four weeks, coach Don Verlin said.
