Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State women's hoops duo earns MW honors

Boise State junior Deanna Weaver was named the conference's Newcomer of the Year and was named to the all-conference and all-defensive teams. The Broncos were 4-6 before the Oregon transfer became eligible in December, and is 13-6 since. Yaiza Rodriguez was named Co-Freshman of the Year, along with Colorado State's Ellen Nystrom, and earned a spot on the all-freshman team. Utah State's Jennifer Schlott was named player of the year after scoring 27.2 points per conference game, leading the league by 8.9. The Broncos open Mountain West Tournament play at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against Wyoming.

IDAHO MEN'S BASKETBALL: Senior forward Stephen Madison earned a spot on the All-WAC first team. New Mexico State's Daniel Mullings is the league's player of the year. The Vandals (14-17) face Missouri-Kansas City (10-19) in the first round of the WAC Tournament at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Las Vegas.

BSU MEN'S TENNIS: The 20th-ranked Broncos (11-3) beat No. 42 Minnesota 5-2 in their first home competition in six weeks at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.

BSU SOFTBALL: The Broncos (10-11) split two games, losing 5-4 to Indiana in the continuation of a suspended game before blanking Valparaiso 7-0 in the Springhill Suites Invitational I at Dona Larsen Park. A scheduled game against Weber State was canceled due to the threat of bad weather.
