Guns on campus:

Brian Murphy (Sunday, March 1, column) had lots of fun putting the gay marriage advocates in bed with the gun rights absolutists.

I get it. If it’s a right, it’s always a right ... everywhere.

But ... is it a good idea to carry weapons in Bronco Stadium?

There are a handful of places where guns are strictly not allowed. Commercial airliners, your local courthouse, my workplace.

Does that violate my rights? I can’t imagine firing a weapon in any of those places, much less Bronco Stadium, where there are thousands of people around.

How about we just take 50 cents of every ticket sale and hire trained, armed security personnel who have radios to communicate with each other and every other law enforcement agency?

I trust them much more than the guy next to me with the holster.

We already do that?

I wish our legislators would spend a little more time keeping the gears of our state moving and a little less time pushing their sexy, hot-button pet issues.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The guns on campus bill passed the full House on Friday and is awaiting a signature from Gov. Butch Otter. Read Friday’s story at IdahoStatesman.com/legislature
