Letter: Legislature

March 6, 2014

Armed retired policemen versus texting university students — a powder keg waiting for a match.

OK, I don’t really believe that many more retired policemen will shoot and kill someone texting; it does get your attention.

It seems to me that narcissism defines the current Idaho Legislature. First it is the concealed weapons dialogue on campuses, and now for all elected officials. I wonder if I live in a country founded upon the principles of the Golden Rule and law, or somewhere in the tribal territories of a third world.

If one were to follow television news, the Legislature is spending a tremendous amount of energy fixing something that ain’t broke, while the legislative clock ticks down and the real purpose of government goes untended.

After checking the website, I am reassured there is other business we need to get to. Let’s put the narcissistic stuff on the back burner and look at major issues such as minimum wage, education reform, medical coverage, infrastructure repair, etc.

Then, and only then, if Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, singing horses and the rest of the Idaho Legislature want to wear six-shooters and play cowboys and Democrats, they can.
