Nampa police arrested two Canyon County residents early Wednesday after a chase that ended with a vehicle driving across a farm field and both occupants fleeing to nearby residences.

Kevin Wayne Wages, 42, of Wilder is the suspected driver and is charged with felony eluding officers, possession of drug paraphernalia, littering and failure to purchase a drivers license.

Ashley Meranda Zuniga, 20, of Nampa is charged with obstructing and delaying a police officer.

The incident began just before midnight when a Nampa police officer attempted to stop a small pickup truck with broken taillights that was weaving as it was entering westbound Interstate 84 at Northside Boulevard. The vehicle started to pull over, then sped down I-84 with police in pursuit. The pickup exited the freeway at milepost 33, then headed west on Idaho 55, reaching speeds of about 90 mph, police said.

Canyon and Owyhee county sheriff’s deputies joined in the effort. When the pickup truck got to Apricot Lane, it drove through a farm field then back onto the road and went over a 4-foot drop. The male driver and his female passenger fled on foot, police said.

Residents in the area heard the commotion and alerted officers to the location of both suspects. They were arrested without incident.
