Nampa police are still on the hunt for a suspected drunken driver who fled from officers during a high-speed chase early Wednesday morning and escaped on foot when his car ended up in a cul-de-sac.
Vincente Prieto, 29, also has warrants for his arrest on unrelated charges of theft, trespassing, resisting arrest and a traffic violation.
Wednesday's incident began at 12:10 a.m., when a Nampa officer tried to pull over a silver 2001 Hyundai Elantra on Garrity Boulevard at Flamingo Avenue. Nampa police say they suspected the driver was impaired.
Instead of pulling over, Prieto headed north under the Interstate 84 overpass and onto Idaho Center Boulevard. The high-speed chase then headed west onto Birch Lane. But police say Prieto took the corner too fast, his car going over the curb and hitting a power pole. Despite a blown tire, Prieto continued west on Birch Lane, according to police. At Edgebrook Drive, Prieto drove off the road and across grass at the entrance to a subdivision. His car ended up on Rainbow Drive and eventually in a dead-end cul-de-sac on Rainbow Place.
Officers say Prieto then got out of his car and ran through the backyards of several homes. Nampa police and Canyon County Sheriff's Office deputies searched the area but couldn't find Prieto.
Anyone with information about Prieto's whereabouts is asked to call Nampa police at 465-2257 or the anonymous tipline at 343-COPS(2677).
