Idaho colleges roundup: Former College of Idaho All-American 12th at nationals

BOULDER, Colo. — Greg Montgomery competed in the US Cross Country National Championships and completed the 12k course in 37 minutes, 40 seconds, a minute behind two-time champion Chris Derrick. Montgomery will represent Team USA in the NACAC Championships — a race for the top runners in North America, Central America and the Caribbean — next week in Trinidad and Tobago.

C OF I INDOOR TRACK: Hillary Holt won the 3,000 meters Sunday at the UW Open, setting a school record in 9 minutes, 27.25 seconds and beating the automatic qualifying mark for the NAIA national indoor meet by more than a minute. Sarah Johnson (5:03.64) and Sora Klopfenstein (5:09.86) earned automatic qualifying times in the mile, and Nick Hampton (2:29.75, men's 1,000) earned a heat win and an NAIA automatic time.

BOISE STATE SOFTBALL: Ashley Palmer and Makenna Weir homered for the Broncos (4-6), who beat Utah Valley 8-1 at the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas.

C OF I BASEBALL: The Coyotes (4-4) lost twice in Portland, falling 7-3 to Concordia and 4-0 to George Fox.

LEWIS-CLARK STATE BASEBALL: The Warriors (4-0) beat Montana State Billings 9-2, 4-1 to complete a season-opening weekend sweep in Lewiston.
