Idaho is now second in the nation, per capita, for enrollments in plans offered on the health insurance exchange at yourhealthidaho.org, according to Your Health Idaho.

Leaders of Your Health Idaho, the state's exchange for insurance plans, said Wednesday that 32,899 people have chosen health plans through the exchange. That was a 65 percent increase from a month ago.

Nationally, exchange enrollments were up by 53 percent in January, compared with the previous three-month reporting period.

Many more Idahoans have filled out insurance applications and been deemed eligible to enroll in insurance plans, but have yet to choose a plan. Your Health Idaho said 59,353 Idahoans have filled out applications so far.

"We are excited enrollment numbers have reached nearly 33,000 but we still have a lot of work to do by March 31," the end of the open-enrollment period, said Jody Olson, Your Health Idaho communications director. "We know there are other Idahoans who still need help. Over the next couple of months, we will do our best to answer everyone's health insurance questions at our enrollment events in communities across the state, online and through our Consumer Resource Center."

For Idahoans who want health insurance coverage to kick in by March 1, the deadline to enroll is Saturday.
