February 10, 2014

Chase Panda, 19, died in a collision between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car on Idaho 44 just west of Middleton Monday morning, Idaho State Police report.

Panda, of Caldwell, was driving east on the highway near Rhodenbaugh Lane before 9:30 a.m. when a tractor-trailer turned westbound onto the highway and was struck by Panda’s car, according to an ISP news release. The highway was closed in both directions for about three hours.

Panda died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 49-year-old Seyran Minasyan of California, was not transported for treatment.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Idaho State Police are investigating the crash. The news release did not state whether heavy fog Monday morning may have contributed to the crash, and further information about the investigation was not immediately available.
