Heavy smoke from Boise garage fire damages house, kills ferrets

February 5, 2014

A Wednesday afternoon garage fire in a West Boise neighborhood caused extensive smoke damage to the inside of the family's home and killed two pet ferrets, the Boise Fire Department reports.

The fire was reported at 4:14 p.m. on the 2700 block of North Christine Street. A fire engine arrived within moments and found smoke and flames coming from an exterior wall of the garage. Damage to the garage is extensive, due to flames that had quickly spread through the wall, according to a BFD news release.

Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to the interior of the home, but smoke damage was extensive throughout the house.

Firefighters called out the Fire Union Burnout Fund and the Red Cross to assist the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to be accidental, the fire department reports.
