Fiction 101 with Boise Weekly: Thursday, Feb. 6, 7:30 p.m. Fiction 101 is a flash fiction contest hosted by the Boise Weekly. Participants must write an engaging, complete and concise story in only 101 words. Winners and honorable mentions of Fiction 101 will read their short pieces and receive cash prizes. Author event: Saturday, Feb. 8, 2–4 p.m. Hyde Park Books is going to the dogs! Please stop in with your favorite furry friend to meet some authors who have recently published books about dogs and their families. We will be collecting food and toy donations for the Idaho Humane Society until Feb. 10 in honor of the many four-legged friends in need of forever families. Sharon Rose Anderson, Jane Freund and Joel Lund will be the authors present for the meet and greet. Hyde Park Books, Boise.

The Sweet Spot: An evening with wine, chocolate and books: Saturday, Feb. 8, 7 p.m. We’re partnering with The Chocolat Bar and The Basque Market to bring you a private event filled with book talks, wine and chocolate tastings. Everything in the bookstore (excluding Kobo e-readers) will be 20 percent off the night of the event. Participants get chocolate and a bottle of wine included in the ticket price. Author event: Thursday, Feb. 13 6 p.m. Willy Vlautin, author of “Lean on Pete,” will stop in Boise on his book tour to promote his newest book, “The Free,” about three protagonists who find the strength to make the best of difficult situations.
