ACSO seeks information on Star hay heist

January 30, 2014

Provided by Ada County Sheriff's Office A Star man found a large portion of his hay supply missing this week, and Ada County deputies are searching for the culprits.

Ada County Sheriff's detectives are looking for whoever stole 220 bales of hay from a field in Star earlier this month — a heist costing the owner nearly $3,000, the sheriff's office reported Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the week, the owner discovered the bales were missing from a haystack on his property in the 8800 block of State Street. Each bale weighs about 90 pounds — so whoever stole them had to spend quite a bit of time on the property and use a truck and trailer to take them away.

Each bale is worth $13, so the total loss is $2,860. The hay is there to feed the cattle on the property. The theft occurred sometime between Jan. 12 and Jan. 26.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ada County Sheriff’s Detective Justin Elliot at 577-3702.
