Letter: Charitable giving

January 21, 2014

The letter (Bell ringers, Jan. 5) regarding not needing to donate because someone votes for liberal causes reminded me of an article by Nicolas Kristof of the New York Times. His article, “Bleeding Heart Tightwads,” was supposed to be about how generous liberals were in comparison to conservatives. He found exactly the opposite.

While liberals may believe in being generous, it tends to only be at the expense of everyone, while conservatives tend to donate far more in not only money but their own time. And that is despite being forced to pay for all those liberal causes.

It would be a good idea for people that think they do not need to donate their time or money because they vote liberal to take the columnist’s advice: “Come on liberals, redeem yourselves, and put your wallets where your hearts are.”
