Escapees from North Idaho prison caught in Washington state

January 20, 2014

Caleb Joe Thomas and Ridge Scott Dains were found driving a stolen vehicle near Walla Walla, Wash., according to the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC).

The state prison agency cited the Idaho County Sheriff's Office as the source of the information in its Monday announcement.

Thomas, 20, and Dains, 21, were discovered missing on Saturday shortly after 1 a.m. Mountain Time.

Searchers from the prison's Correctional Emergency Response Team and the Idaho County Sheriff's Office found footprints in the snow leading away from the prison.

The pair will be returned to Idaho County, where they could face new charges connected to the escape, according to IDOC. The agency "is conducting a thorough review of the events that led up to the escape," according to the announcement.

Thomas was previously convicted of first-degree arson, grand theft, destruction of evidence and solicitation to commit perjury. His convictions are from Canyon and Payette counties. Dains was convicted of burglary in Canyon County.
