California man gets 3 to 15 years for Caldwell domestic battery

January 8, 2014

Ernesto Reyes, 22, of Los Angeles, Calif., was sentenced Wednesday to at least three, and up to 15, years in prison for felony attempted strangulation and domestic battery with traumatic injury in the presence of a child.

Third District Judge Bradly Ford imposed the sentence, noting that Reyes had three previous felonies on his record and was on probation in California for a felony domestic violence crime against the same victim. Reyes is a documented gang member, according to the Canyon County prosecutor’s office..

Caldwell police responded to West Valley Medical Center on June 15 to investigate a domestic battery after a woman was brought in for treatment. Reyes showed up at the hospital and said the victim was jumped by three other females and that caused her injuries. Officers investigated and arrested Reyes for the crime.
