Middleton man killed in Oregon crash; Star man seriously injured

December 30, 2013

One Treasure Valley man was killed and another was seriously injured in a rollover crash near Bend, Ore., on Sunday afternoon, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 20 at milepost 31. A 1998 Dodge pickup was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Christopher H. Johanson, a 36-year-old Middleton man, was partially ejected from the pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Matthew A. Dreyer of Star was ejected. He suffered serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Dreyer was in critical condition Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Investigators say Dreyer was driving the pickup west on U.S. 20 when the vehicle went off the road on a curve. Police say Dreyer overcorrected when trying to regain control of the vehicle, and it rolled an unknown number of times.

Police say they are investigating alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash.
