Boise police said quick reporting and response by officers helped lead to the swift arrest of a suspect in the armed robbery of a shoe store near the Boise Towne Square mall Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, a clerk at Famous Footwear at 518 N. Milwaukee St., told police that a woman walked into the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers began their search after the clerk's quick, accurate description of the suspect.

Boise police and Ada County sheriff's deputies searched parking lots, roads and nearby businesses. At 4:32 p.m. — 10 minutes after the robbery was reported — police located the suspect nearby in the lobby of a hotel in the 7900 block of West Emerald Street. Police made contact with the woman and said they found evidence that she was the suspect.

Kellie K. Drake, 33, of Boise was booked into the Ada County Jail on felony charges of robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and burglary.

Police said Drake had several items in her possession that were found to have been stolen earlier Tuesday by the suspect from a store near where the robbery occurred, leading to the felony burglary charge.

"The presence of mind of the victim, reporting the crime quickly with an accurate suspect description, and the quick response of officers made all the difference in finding this suspect so quickly," said Sgt. Jeff Basterrechea of the Boise Police Patrol Division.
