Stability in Canyon County housing market

Statesman staffDecember 17, 2013

The past year has been a wild ride for the Ada County housing market. Home sales more than doubled, from 365 in January to 883 in July. Median prices rose nearly 10 percent during the warm buying season, from $195,000 in May to later-peak-than-usual $214,000 in October.

Canyon County has been much more stable. Since May, median home prices each month have ranged between $124,590 and $130,500.

Scott Syme, who co-owns Syme Real Estate in Caldwell, says the market settled down after jumping 16.5 percent between January and April.

“There are still buyers. There are still sellers,” Syme says. “It’s now a relatively stable market instead of a rapidly rising market.”
