A 1992 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Mark Carl Crawford, 47, rolled 60 feet down a steep embankment Saturday after leaving Lester Creek Road in Elmore County.

Mark Carl Crawford, 47, ran off the road in a 1992 GMC Sierra pickup on Lester Creek Road, about 4 miles west of Pine.

Crawford's truck failed to negotiate a right curve, according to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office. The truck was headed west when it left the road on the left shoulder and rolled down a steep embankment.

The truck came to a rest on its side, about 60 feet below the road. Sheriff's investigators are unaware of any witnesses to the crash, said Deputy Michael K. Gelalia. It was discovered about 2 p.m. Saturday by a passerby. Gelalia said Crawford was working as a logger in the area.

Crawford was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said Crawford was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Crews from the Pine EMS, Elmore County Extrication, and Elmore Ambulance Service also responded.

The road was snow and ice covered, but it did not appear to have been a factor, Gelalia said.
