Nampa church deacon claimed Satan made him sexually abuse 12-year-old

December 13, 2013

— A deacon with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nampa was arrested Tuesday after a girl told investigators with the Nampa Police Department he had touched her inappropriately inside a church storage room.

Alexander Gonzalez Garcia was charged with lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16. The preteen told investigators that Garcia had lured her into the storage room at a July 20 potluck by telling her he had something “cool” to show her, according to court documents.

Once inside the storage room, Garcia hugged and kissed the girl before touching her sexually, she said. The girl left the room and told her grandmother what had happened.

During an Aug. 26 interview with Nampa Police detectives, Garcia initially denied touching the girl sexually, according to court documents.

“Garcia said he did hug and kiss [the 12-year-old] but that was something he did all the time,” Nampa Police Detective Norman Corder wrote in a report.

Later in the interview, Garcia told detectives that Satan had been in the storage room with him and the girl, and had taken control of him and made him touch the child inappropriately.

The deacon went on to say that he would not have touched the girl if Satan had not been in control of him.

“Garcia said that in 30 years he had never taken anyone into the room and he knew nothing good would happen when he took [the girl] into the room,” Corder wrote.

A warrant was issued by the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office Tuesday, and Garcia was arrested the same day. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 24.

Garcia could face up to life in prison if convicted of lewd conduct.
