Star man arrested when police find marijuana in mail

December 12, 2013

— A Star man who had a package of marijuana sent to a relative’s home in Garden City is facing a felony charge after police opened the package.

Alexander Christian Gruber, 18, arranged to have the 1.3 pounds of marijuana mailed from California to the Garden City house, police said. But when detectives learned of the plan, they intercepted the package at the relative’s home Nov. 21.

Police say Gruber’s relative did not realize what was in the package, and was not involved in shipping it. Because Gruber was not at the Garden City home when the package arrived, police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Gruber was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop. He has been charged with felony trafficking marijuana, and faces a mandatory minimum of one year in prison if convicted

Gruber will be arraigned in court Thursday afternoon.
