EAGLE — Eagle Police are hunting for the driver of an SUV that rear-ended a school bus and took off.
Only one student was aboard the bus when it was hit, and neither that child nor the driver was hurt in the wreck, which happened at about 9 a.m. near Linder Road and West Saguaro Drive in Eagle.
The school bus was headed to Galileo STEM Academy, located at 4735 West Saguaro Drive when the wreck happened.
After slamming into the back of the bus, the SUV drove away without stopping, police said. Officers are currently scouring neighborhoods in the area for the suspect vehicle.
The red SUV was described as possibly a Chevy Tahoe, and likely has a damaged front end. Anyone who spots a vehicle matching that description or has any information about the wreck or the driver is urged to call the Ada County Sheriffs Office at 377-6790.
An 11-year-old boy was killed one week ago when the school bus he was riding on was struck by a dump truck at the intersection of Happy Valley Road and Deer Flat Roads in Kuna. Daniel Cook, a sixth grader, died of his injuries at the scene, and four other elementary school children were injured.
Charges will likely be filed against either the driver of the bus or the driver of the dump truck in that case, Idaho State Police have said.
