State STEP grants available to Idaho businesses

December 10, 2013

Idaho businesses can now apply for State Trade & Export Promotion grants, but the application period ends Jan. 10.

The grants are available to Idaho companies looking to increase exports, find new markets or get involved in exports for the first time.

The Idaho Department of Commerce offers the grants, which are administered by the Small Business Administration.

The state has $78,000 available to distribute through STEP grants. During the past two years, the smallest amount distributed was $1,475. The largest amount was $10,000, the maximum allowed.

Equine Innovations, a New Plymouth company that makes equipment for shoeing horses, was among the businesses that received a STEP grant in 2012. Equine Innovations used the money to attend a large agricultural show in New Zealand. The trade shows helped the company increase exports to both New Zealand and Australia.

More information for the STEP grant is available here.
