Out and About: Outdoors news of note

The patrol is sponsoring the event as a fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m., Dec. 5, Dec. 19, Jan. 9 and Jan. 23 on the patio at Sockeye Grill & Brewery at 3019 N. Cole Road in Boise. Bogus Basin ski patrollers will hot wax skis for a $10 ($15 snowboards) donation. Those 21 and older will get a free pint of beer while they wait for the equipment to be waxed. The money raised will support the Bogus Basin ski patrol operations. Ski and snowboard movies will be shown on the heated patio during the waxing sessions.

If you’re a current Bogus Basin season pass holder and want to hit the slopes, you can show a Bogus pass and get two-for-one lift tickets at Sun Valley. The offer is good until Bogus Basin opens for the season. Sun Valley is also offering all skiers and boarders a pre-holiday deal before Dec. 20 with lodging and ski packages as cheap as $81 per person double occupancy package Sunday through Thursday and $85 per person on Fridays and Saturdays. For details go to sunvalley.com.

The Van Wyck trail bridge west of Cascade Reservoir was removed and a new bridge isn’t expected until next summer. An alternate winter route, developed through a partnership between Valley County and the Cascade Ranger District, has been cleared of brush for snowmobile use. The half-mile detour is an abandoned road bed between Forest Road 435 and the old bridge site. It will not be groomed, but will provide a way for snowmobilers to access to the main trail from the groomed route along Forest Road 435. Detour signs will be posted for users to follow.
