Holiday Giving Tree alight in Boise; more lightings coming up

“We’ve celebrated Christmas in Boise for 150 years,” said Mayor Dave Beiter. “Here’s to 150 more.” With that, his daughter and one of her friends lit the Holiday Giving Tree Friday evening at The Grove to kick off the Christmas season.

Tags hung on smaller trees nearby name gifts that benefit the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.

Upcoming tree lightings:

• Capitol Christmas Tree: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 700 W. Jefferson St. Open house follows in the governor’s ceremonial office.

• Garden City: 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, City Hall, 6015 Glenwood St.

• Meridian: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, Generations Plaza, Main Street and Idaho Avenue. Follows the inaugural Winter Lights Parade.

• Star: 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, City Hall, 10769 W. State St.

• Eagle: 5:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Heritage Park, 185 E. State St. Festivities start at noon.

• Kuna: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Colonel Bernard Fisher park, 201 W. Main St. Night Light Parade at 6 p.m.
