5A: COEUR DALENE 31, HIGHLAND 28
Coeur dAlene won its third title in four years late Friday, defeating Highland 31-28 at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
Trailing 28-24 in the fourth quarter, Coeur dAlene (9-3) drove 80 yards in the final minute and a half. Quarterback Austin Lee scrambled the final 15 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 47 seconds left.
Lee finished 19-of-29 for 177 yards passing with one touchdown to go with two rushing TDs.
Highland outgained Coeur dAlene 468-296, but the Vikings held Highland to 42 rushing yards.
Rams quarterback Tommy Jewell made up the difference, passing for 426 yards (28-for-44) and three touchdowns. But he also had one interception, which Jackson Carlson returned 64 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Coeur dAlene (9-3) was making its fourth straight appearance in the state title game. The Vikings took second last year. The victory was redemption for a Viking squad that lost to Highland 24-21 in September in Pocatello. Highland (11-1) was bidding for its first state title since 2008.
2A: DECLO 21, WEST SIDE 15
Stegan Garner scored on a 1-yard run with 5:55 left in the game to help lift Declo its second state championship in as many seasons Saturday at Holt Arena.
The score was Garners second of the game, and the Hornets capped it off with a pass from Travis Schroeder to Hayden Hanson for a two-point conversion.
1A DIVISION I: HAGERMAN 42, TROY 34
Pirates quarterback Kade Kress passed for 253 yards and three touchdowns, and added 116 yards and a score on the ground, to lead Hagerman to its second state title in three seasons and a 13-0 season.
