Damion L. White, 18, tried to run away Friday evening after being confronted by Garden City police detectives but was soon caught in the 3900 block of Patton Street, near North Mitchell Street.

The detectives, along with officers from the Boise Police Department, were in the area following up on a car that had been reported stolen recently in Garden City. That vehicle had already been recovered, but detectives were checking into possible suspect leads.

The detectives spotted a red 2006 Dodge Magnum reported stolen Thursday in Boise. As officers were preparing to seize the vehicle, White allegedly ran over and climbed into the driver's seat, police said.

A Garden City detective sustained minor abrasions during the incident. White was not injured, police said.

He was taken to the Ada County Jail, where he was charged with grand theft by possession and resisting and obstructing officers.

White is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Fourth District Court.
