CALDWELL - The Coyotes defeated Southern Oregon 25-13, 25-10, 25-21 in the semifinals of the Cascade Conference tournament Friday night in Caldwell. Emily Ottinger had 14 kills to lead the C of I (17-9), which will face Concordia in the championship game. That game will be played at 3 p.m. at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center, with the winner advancing to the NAIA Championships.
CROSS COUNTRY: Boise State's Emma Bates became the first Bronco to win an NCAA West Region title. She advanced to the NCAA Championships after finishing the 6k in 19:11 in Sacramento, Calif. Teammate Jeff Howard placed seventh in the men's 10k (29:54) and will join Bates at the championships Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Boise State men finished fourth and the women 10th. The Idaho women, led by Hannah Kiser (16th), finished in 19th place.
BOISE STATE MEN'S GOLF: Junior Ty Travis (Eagle High) was named the Mountain West golfer of the month.
BSU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Broncos signed two high school players to national letters of intent. Shalen Shaw (Reno), a 6-foot-1 combo guard, and Marijke Vanderschaaf (Sammamish, Wash.), a 6-3 post, will join the program in 2014.
BSU SWIMMING AND DIVING: The Broncos signed six incoming freshmen. The swimmers are Monica Bottelberghe (Vancouver, Wash.), Emma Chard (Tacoma, Wash.), Amelia Draney (St. George, Utah) and Morgan McClure (Sacramento, Calif.). The divers are Kacee Olson (Mesa, Ariz.) and Kiley Carlson (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.).
IDAHO WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Vandals defeated Mount St. Mary's 81-63 in Chicago. Senior Alyssa Charlston led Idaho (1-1) with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
IDAHO MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Vandals signed Colton (Wash.) High senior Jake Straughan to a letter of intent. Straughan averaged 26 points as a junior.
C OF I MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Coyotes ran their win streak to five games with a 90-71 victory over Westminster at the Golden Rule Shootout in Caldwell. Antonio Garrett led the C of I (5-2) with 24 points.
NORTHWEST NAZARENE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Crusaders defeated Fresno Pacific 75-58 in Nampa. Chelsie Luke led NNU (2-0) with 18 points.
